Metaplastic Carcinoma with Extensive Chondroid Differentiation in the Breast (Chondroid Carcinoma)
Metaplastic breast carcinoma is very rare, and metaplastic carcinoma with chondroid differentiation is even rarer. Here, we report a case of metaplastic carcinoma with extensive chondroid differentiation mimicking chondrosarcoma that was challenging to diagnose. The tumor was characterized by an abundant chondromyxoid matrix. The definitive area of classic invasive ductal carcinoma was minimal....
متن کاملMetaplastic Carcinoma with Chondroid Differentiation Arising in Microglandular Adenosis
Microglandular adenosis (MGA) of the breast is a rare, benign proliferative lesion but with a significant rate of associated carcinoma. Herein, we report an unusual case of metaplastic carcinoma with chondroid differentiation associated with typical MGA. Histologically, MGA showed a direct transition to metaplastic carcinoma without an intervening atypical MGA or ductal carcinoma in situ compon...
متن کاملMetaplastic breast cancer with chondroid differentiation
BACKGROUND Metaplastic carcinoma of the breast is an extremely rare subtype of breast cancer with an incidence of <1% of all breast neoplasms. Metaplastic carcinoma with chondroid differentiation is the rarest among all histologic subtypes of breast cancer. We report a case of infiltrating ductal carcinoma with metaplastic features of chondroid differentiation. CASE PRESENTATION A 58-year-old...
متن کاملMetaplastic carcinoma of the breast: A rare carcinoma with chondroid metaplasia.
Metaplastic breast carcinoma accounts for less than 1% of breast malignancies. Huvos et al. first introduced the term metaplastic carcinoma in 1974. It is usually seen together with poorly differentiated ductal carcinoma of the breast. Within its mesenchymal components, undifferentiated connective tissue cells, fibroblasts, osteoblasts and chondroblasts can be found. Metaplastic breast carcinom...
متن کاملMetaplastic breast carcinoma with extensive osseous differentiation: a case report.
We present a case of a 77-year-old female who had a metaplastic breast carcinoma with extensive osseous differentiation. Her mammogram showed a largely calcified mass, but the pathology revealed that the calcification was ossification. The radiologic differentiation between an osteoid matrix and a dense calcification is discussed. Radiologic and pathologic correlation is also provided.
